Horst P. Horst (1906 - 1999) is one of the most revered and important fashion photographers of the 20th century.
Horst began his six decade long association with Vogue in 1931 - by the end of the decade he had published in all 3 versions, on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to editorial and advertising Horst also shot all the luminaries of the era including Marlene Dietrich, Noël Coward, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli to mention a few.
Horst was prolific and shot an array of subjects of his own initiative. In the late 1980's there was a resurgence interest and appreciation of his work (and general fascination with historical fashion photography increased)
This delicate and dramatic image is a paradigm of Horst's mastery of tone, texture and elegance.
