Black Horsegram/Karuppu Kollu is one of the most nutritious and sustainable lentils we can add to our daily diet! It is warming, rich in protein, minerals, aids digestion and has been a part of Ayurveda and several Indian alternate medicines... Kollu/Horsegram is a household staple in Tamil Nadu, especially the kongu region! Black Horsegram is rarer and has a higher antioxidant content. To cook - Soak the Horsegram for a couple of hours or overnight and pressure cook them (with a 1:3 water ratio for about 10 whistles). Alternatively, you can also cook them in an open vessel or sprout the seeds. Black Horsegram is great for dals, sandals, curries and salads.
